Dr. Pool graduated in May 2009 from the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Pool has been practicing dentistry since 2009
She practiced as an associate dentist in 2 different dental offices;
5 years in Manhattan, KS
3 years in Lafayette, CO
What is Dr. Pool’s dental approach?
Dr. Pool enjoys providing quality dental treatment to the whole family. She stresses preventative dentistry and enjoys talking with patients about any questions they may have regarding the health of their mouth. Dr. Pool finds satisfaction when she can get a patient back on track with their dental care after they have either had a bad dental experience in the past, or if it has been several years since their last dental appointment. As Dr. Pool finds fulfillment in getting patients back on regular dental visits, many patients leave the office telling us the experience was not as bad as they were expecting. Regardless of the situation, Dr. Pool will never make a patient feel bad for a lapse in dental treatment. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you are in our office. Dr. Pool’s chair side presence helps to put patients at ease. Her demeanor is patient and gentle, which carries over into
her dental treatment. Dr. Pool strives to listen to her patient’s concerns and then develop a treatment plan that will provide them with a healthy mouth. Dr. Pool will evaluate each patient on an individual basis. Dr. Pool does preform endodontic services (root canals), oral surgery (extractions), and periodontal services (scaling and root pl
aning). However, if the procedure requires a specialist then the patient will be referred to receive the best standard of care.
Does this office place silver fillings?
Our office does not place amalgam (mercury/silver) fillings. Even though we do not place silver fillings, we do not recommend removing them simply because they exist, unless a medical doctor recommends this treatment. We recommend replacing silver fillings when there is either a new cavity or a fracture. Replacing for cosmetic reasons may not be covered by insurance and therefore this procedure must be the patient’s choice with the insurance information disclosed to the patient before any work is performed.
We offer safe amalgam removal
An amalgam separator is properly installed, utilized, and maintained in our office to collect mercury amalgam waste so that it is not released into the wastewater from the dental office. Non-latex nitrile gloves are utilized by the dentist and all dental personnel in the room. A face shield and hair/head covering are utilized by the patient during the procedure. Oxygen is delivered via a nasal mask for the patient to assure the patient does not inhale any mercury vapor or amalgam particulate during the procedure. A dental dam that is made with non-latex nitrile material is placed in the patient’s mouth. During amalgam filling removal, the dentist will utilize a negative ion generator in the operating field to mitigate mercury exposure. Copious amounts of water will be used to reduce heat and a conventional high speed evacuation device to capture mercury discharges during the amalgam removal. The amalgam will be sectioned into chunks and removed in as large of pieces as possible, using a small diameter carbide drill. After the amalgam and any decay present have been removed, the tooth will be restored with the appropriate restoration
How are we different from other Colorado Springs Dental Clinics?
Many of our patients are looking for a holistic approach to dentistry, where their dental health is considered within the context of their overall health. One of the aspects of this method of dentistry is a complete avoidance of amalgam/silver fillings, which contain mercury. Another hallmark of biocompatible dentistry is taking a preventative approach to avoiding larger problems. Dr. Pool prefers to address any dental issues early so the most conservative treatment can be performed.
Dr. Pool offers services that include 100% metal free dentistry. This office utilizes specific techniques to remove amalgam fillings. Our office follows techniques to replace them with a safe compatible composite material.
What does she like to do in her free time?
Dr. Pool has three daughters so most of her time is spent with them, and her husband, when she is not in the office. Her kids are active in sports throughout the year, so she can be found on the sidelines cheering for them and carpooling them to and from activities. She also enjoys baking, reading, photography, and exploring Colorado.
Does Dr. Pool have any dental memberships?
Dr. Pool maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association, Colorado Springs Dental Society, and local dental study groups. She understands dentistry is constantly evolving and she must continue her education by taking a variety of courses to give patients the best care. Each year Dr. Pool attends the Rocky Mountain Dental Conference in Denver to continue her dental training. Dr. Pool has traveled to Scottsdale, AZ to take several courses advancing her knowledge at the Spear Dental Facility.
Any community services that Dr. Pool participates in?
